ISLAMABAD: The Insistance Pakistan Party (IPP) has decided to intensify its political efforts for the establishment of new provinces and administrative units in the country. Party President Abdul Aleem Khan has said that the need for new provinces has increased due to population growth and administrative problems.

During a meeting with party leaders, Abdul Aleem Khan said that serious work should be done on new provinces to make administrative affairs effective in vast areas of the country. According to him, Pakistan should look beyond political and personal interests and look at national needs.

He clarified that the IPP will adopt a solid strategy at the party level on the issue of new provinces. Abdul Aleem Khan said that the party will stand with those who support this cause.

The IPP president reiterated his support, especially for Hazara and Bahawalpur provinces. He also supported the establishment of the South Punjab and Seraiki provinces. He said that other areas, including Multan, can also be divided into new units for a better administrative system.

Abdul Aleem Khan is of the opinion that the purpose of new provinces should not only be to change the political map but also to provide easy access to government institutions, justice and other basic facilities to the people. According to him, by reducing the administrative distance in large provinces, the problems of citizens can be solved more effectively at the local level.

This position has been presented by the IPP on various occasions before. The party has stated that population growth and administrative needs are the main reasons for the new provinces. Abdul Aleem Khan had earlier also proposed dividing the four provinces into more administrative units.

The establishment of new provinces is a constitutional and political matter. For this, the relevant constitutional procedure, political consensus and parliamentary approval will be necessary. Therefore, the latest announcement by the IPP may re-highlight the political debate on this issue.
