Tehran: Field Marshal Syed Asem Munir has started meetings with senior officials during his visit to Iran. Pakistan is taking forward diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions in the region through this visit. He also met Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqir Qalibaf.

According to Iranian officials, the current situation in the region and peace efforts were discussed in the meeting. Field Marshal Asem Munir expressed Pakistan’s determination to continue its efforts for regional stability.

Qalibaf expressed Tehran’s reservations about Washington in the meeting. According to him, the crisis of trust has deepened due to the US’s failure to keep its promises. The Iranian speaker also stressed Iran’s stance on the Islamabad reconciliation process,

The issue is significant because Pakistan has previously facilitated contacts between Iran and the United States. This year, the dialogue process in Islamabad to reduce tensions between the two countries moved forward. However, the process later ran into difficulties.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghai also described the visit as important. According to him, relations between Pakistan and Iran are currently at a strong stage. He said that the two countries will continue to consult on matters related to regional security and mutual cooperation

Interior Minister Mohsen Naqvi also went to Tehran along with Field Marshal Asim Munir. Both also met with Iranian Interior Minister Eskandhar Momeni. According to Pakistani officials, the visit is part of a broader effort to promote peace and stability in the region

A key aspect of the visit is the growing lack of trust between Iran and the United States. According to Reuters, US President Donald Trump spoke to Field Marshal Asim Munir on the phone before the visit. According to sources, Washington has asked Pakistan to play a role in bringing Iran back to the negotiating table.

This diplomatic role is not easy for Pakistan. Islamabad has geographical and trade ties with Iran. On the other hand, Pakistan also has important diplomatic ties with the United States. Therefore, balance in Pakistani efforts is of fundamental importance.

In the current situation, it is premature to predict an immediate agreement. However, maintaining contacts with Pakistan’s mediation provides a positive diplomatic path. The meetings in Tehran are being seen as an attempt to reactivate this process.

The key question in the coming days will be whether Pakistan can make practical progress in reducing the lack of trust between Iran and the United States. The answer to this will come from the resumption of negotiations and the future actions of the parties.
