Market Analysis & Drivers

The domestic silver market recovered slightly today, moving up to Rs. 6,802 per tola after a brief period of steady trade. Local wholesale dealers adjust their daily price sheets based on two primary factors: international spot market valuations and changes in the US dollar exchange rate against the Pakistani Rupee.

Right now, many retail savers are turning to silver because it offers an affordable alternative to sky-high gold prices. This lower entry point allows casual investors to build up their tangible savings in smaller, manageable portions. At the same time, silver’s growing use in green technologies and solar energy worldwide gives it a strong industrial foundation, helping it act as a steady hedge against local inflation.

Silver Nisab for Zakat Calculation

For Zakat purposes, the silver standard (Nisab) is set at 52.5 tolas of pure silver. Calculating this requirement against today’s running price of Rs. 6,802 per tola puts the formal Zakat eligibility threshold at exactly Rs. 357,105. If your total liquid savings—including cash, bank balances, gold, or silver assets—remain above this amount for a full Islamic year, paying Zakat becomes an obligation.
