Prices of ghee and cooking oil increase; inflation pressure starts increasing again

Islamabad: The pace of inflation in the country seems to be accelerating once again, as a significant increase in the prices of ghee and cooking oil has been recorded.

According to sources, there has been a sudden increase in prices in the wholesale market in recent days, as a result of which the price of grade I ghee and oil has increased by about Rs 30 per kg to Rs 590.

At the same time, the price of grade II cooking oil has increased by Rs 35 per litre, after which its new price has become Rs 545, while the price of grade II ghee has reached Rs 535 per kg after an increase of Rs 25.

Economists say that although there are signs of stabilization in oil prices globally, the benefits are not being passed on to consumers locally. According to them, supply chain problems, hoarding and rising production costs are the main reasons for the price hike.

Experts have warned that if market surveillance is not made effective, this inflationary trend could intensify further, which will increase the financial pressure on the public.
