Iran Announces Closure of Strait of Hormuz, Global Shipping Disrupted

iran

Tehran: Iran has announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil transit route, causing major disruption to commercial shipping and raising international alarm.

In an official statement, a spokesperson for the country’s central military command said that the situation in the Strait remains unchanged and fully under Iranian control. The official emphasized that no vessel movement is currently being allowed through the strategic waterway.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps also issued a strong warning, stating that strict control over the Strait will continue unless the United States restores the movement of ships linked to Iran. The group accused Washington of imposing an illegal blockade on Iranian ports, describing it as an act of “maritime piracy.”

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most vital energy corridors, through which a significant portion of global oil supply passes daily. Any disruption in this route has immediate implications for international energy markets and shipping industries.

Analysts warn that continued tensions could push global oil prices higher and disrupt supply chains, especially for energy-importing countries.

Iranian authorities reiterated that the security and administrative control of the Strait remain firmly in their hands and that all necessary steps will be taken to protect national sovereignty.
