Multan Sultans Ascend to Top of Table; Hyderabad Kingmen’s Playoff Hopes Dwindle After Third Defeat

LAHORE — Strategy met raw power at the Gaddafi Stadium as Multan Sultans executed one of the most clinical run-chases in PSL history. By successfully hunting down 226 runs, Multan has sent a strong message to the rest of the league, securing their second win in as many matches. For Hyderabad Kingmen, the result is a bitter pill to swallow, marking three defeats in three outings—a situation that puts their play-off qualifications in early jeopardy.

Hyderabad’s strategy of batting first seemed to pay off initially. The duo of Maaz Sadaqat and Sharjeel Khan dismantled the Multan bowling in the powerplay, striking at rates exceeding 200. The total of 225 was a record-level score for the venue, yet their bowling department failed to defend it. The lack of variety in the middle overs allowed Sahibzada Farhan to settle and eventually take the game away.

Multan’s captaincy and middle-order stability were the highlights. Even after Steve Smith fell for 46, the team didn’t panic. The promotion of Arafat Minhas and the steady hand of Shan Masood provided the perfect foil for Farhan’s aggression. This victory highlights Multan’s deep batting lineup and their ability to handle high-pressure situations. As the tournament moves forward, Multan looks like the team to beat, whereas Hyderabad needs a radical tactical overhaul to stay relevant in the competition.
