KARACHI — Pakistan’s cement industry continues its steady recovery path as new data reveals a robust 9.8% increase in total consumption during the first nine months of the current fiscal year. According to the latest declaration from the Cement Manufacturers Association, total despatches for the July-March period reached 38.54 million tonnes, signalling a healthy uptick in construction activity across the country.
The month of March 2026 alone saw a modest but significant increase of 0.91% in total despatches, totalling 3.745 million tonnes. While local consumption remained the backbone of the industry at 3.097 million tonnes for the month, the standout performer was the export sector. Exports surged by 6.56%, reaching 0.648 million tonnes in March, as Pakistani manufacturers successfully tapped into regional markets despite global logistical challenges.
Reflecting on the fiscal year’s progress, the domestic market has been particularly strong, with local consumption rising by 10.61% to reach 31.6 million tons. This growth is largely attributed to ongoing infrastructure projects and a revival in the private housing sector. Meanwhile, the export front has maintained a steady climb of 6.25% over the nine-month period, totaling 6.94 million tons.
Despite these positive numbers, the industry remains cautious. Manufacturers have voiced concerns over the rising costs of energy and raw materials, which could potentially slow down the momentum gained in the first three quarters of the year.
