Tehran – The Iranian military has reportedly claimed the downing of a United States F-15 fighter jet near the country’s southern coastal region and the strategic Strait of Hormuz, according to several foreign media reports.
Iranian officials stated on Sunday that their air defence system successfully targeted the advanced aircraft using a surface-to-air missile. While Iranian state media released video footage allegedly showing the moment the defence system locked onto and struck the jet, the authenticity of the video has not yet been independently verified by international observers.
As of now, the United States military and its regional allies have maintained silence regarding the claim, with no official confirmation or denial issued. The situation remains sensitive given that several countries in the region, including Saudi Arabia, Israel, and Qatar, also operate F-15 variants within their air forces.
This latest development follows a similar claim made by the Iranian military just a day prior, asserting they had downed an Israeli F-16 over central Iran. Without official statements from Washington or secondary tracking data, the global community remains cautious about the potential for further escalation in one of the world’s most critical maritime corridors.
