LAHORE – In a major move to empower the youth while tackling environmental challenges, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has officially launched the Climate Leadership Development Internship Program.

Under this initiative, selected university students across Punjab will receive a monthly stipend of Rs 60,000 while gaining hands-on experience in climate advocacy and governance.

Program Highlights

The internship is designed to transform students into environmental leaders by involving them in real-world projects aimed at solving Punjab’s climate crisis.

  • Financial Support: A high-value stipend of Rs 60,000 per month.
  • Practical Experience: Interns will work directly on provincial environmental projects, smog mitigation strategies, and sustainability shifts.
  • Career Building: Participants will gain professional skills and networking opportunities within the environmental sector, boosting their future career prospects.

“This project reflects the Punjab government’s commitment to empowering our youth and fostering environmental consciousness,” said CM Maryam Nawaz during the inauguration.

How to Apply: Eligibility and Process

The program is open to students currently enrolled in or recently graduated from universities across Punjab.

Application Steps:

  1. Visit the official Environmental Protection Department (EPD) portal.

Why This Matters

Pakistan remains one of the countries most vulnerable to climate change. By combining financial incentives with professional training, the Punjab government aims to create a “Green Force” of young professionals capable of leading sustainable development and managing climate-related disasters.

Officials have urged eligible students to apply immediately, as the first batch will be selected shortly after the deadline to begin work on urgent seasonal climate projects.

Before you head to the official portal, make sure you have digital copies of these documents ready. Having them scanned and organized will help you finish the application in minutes.

Quick Eligibility Check

To save you time, ensure you meet these basic criteria before applying:

  • Age: Generally between 18 and 25 years.
  • Residency: Must have a Punjab Domicile.
  • Education: Open to current students or those who have graduated within the last 2 years.
  • Preference: While open to all, students of Environmental Sciences, Engineering, and Social Sciences are often given priority.
