ISLAMABAD – Senior Vice Chairman of Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association Tariq Hassan has demanded a forensic audit of the recent increase in petroleum product prices and an immediate increase in dealers’ margins from the government.
Tariq Hassan, while addressing a press conference, presented a three-point agenda:
- A full accounting of the amount of Rs. 55 per liter increase in petrol prices should be given.
- An inquiry should be conducted into alleged irregularities against oil marketing companies (OMCs).
- The current margin of dealers should be increased from 2.59% to 8%.
Tariq Hassan criticized the government, saying that on one hand, claims of foreign investment are being made, while on the other hand, 14,000 local petrol pump owners are being pushed into difficulties. He revealed that OGRA had sent a summary to increase margins, which the Prime Minister rejected on the condition of “digitization”.
