Diesel is expensive, Pakistan Railways increases train fares by 5 to 20 percent

Lahore: Pakistan Railways has decided to increase train fares due to the increase in fuel prices. According to a railway spokesperson, the change in fares became inevitable after the price of diesel increased by about 20 percent.

According to officials, under the new decision, economy class fares have been increased by 5 percent while AC class fares have been increased by 10 percent.

The spokesperson said that despite the increase in operational costs of passenger trains, the full burden will not be transferred to passengers and a part of it will be borne by Pakistan Railways itself.

In addition, freight or freight train fares have been increased by 20 percent, which will be applicable to all passenger and freight trains from March 9.

According to railway officials, this decision will apply only to new bookings, while fares for already purchased tickets will not be increased.
