PM Shehbaz reaffirms commitment to Indus Waters Treaty and water rights

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has made it clear that Pakistan firmly believes in the full and fair implementation of the Indus Waters Treaty 1960, and using water as a weapon of war is considered a clear violation of international laws.

In his message on the occasion of World Water Day, he said that water is not just a natural resource but a fundamental right linked to the survival, food and economy of millions of people, the protection of which must be ensured at all costs.

The Prime Minister said that the theme of this year’s World Day, “Water Resources and Traditional Knowledge, Preserving Cultural Heritage”, reminds us that water resources are an integral part of our civilisation and culture.

He said that Pakistan respects international agreements and supports fair distribution of water in the region so that any kind of conflict or tension can be avoided.
