Lahore: The provincial government has announced long holidays for citizens keeping in mind the national, religious and cultural days, under which the citizens of Lahore will get five consecutive days of holidays. According to the official announcement, the holidays will start from Shab-e-Barat on February 4, while February 5 will be an official holiday on the occasion of Kashmir Day, after which traditional and cultural festival Basant celebrations will be held across the city from February 6 to 8.
The government says that the aim of these holidays is to provide recreational opportunities to citizens, give them an opportunity to spend time with their families and promote the cultural traditions of Lahore. During this time, government offices, schools and colleges will remain closed so that people can participate in the festivities without any hassle.
According to the administration, special events will be organized in the city on the occasion of Basant, which will include kite flying competitions, music concerts and various community programs. A large number of citizens have appreciated the government’s decision, saying that the long holidays will not only increase entertainment opportunities but will also restore the cultural splendor of the city.
However, the authorities have made safety measures a top priority during Basant. In view of the accidents and crowds that have occurred in the past, instructions have been issued to law enforcement agencies, rescue teams and district administration to remain alert. Special monitoring will be carried out to ensure implementation of safety rules during kite flying so that any untoward incident can be avoided.
The administration says that a comprehensive plan has been drawn up to celebrate Basant in a safe and orderly manner this time. Security will be increased at markets, entertainment venues and important highways, while citizens have also been appealed to show responsibility and follow government instructions.
Citizens have expressed hope that this year Basant will be celebrated in a pleasant, safe and memorable manner and Lahore will once again become the symbol of the living heart of Lahore with its traditional colors.
