Islamabad: If your mobile SIM has not been used for several months, beware, because the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has decided to block such SIMs permanently. Under the new regulation, all SIMs that remain inactive for six months or 180 days will be automatically disconnected.
According to PTA officials, the main reason for this move is security concerns. Inactive SIMs are used by some elements for fraud, fake calls and other illegal activities, which causes financial loss and mental distress to citizens.
The authority says that this policy will be implemented equally on all mobile networks and no single company will be exempted. This will not only improve the system but also prevent the wastage of mobile numbers.
The authorities have clarified that the deactivated SIMs will be made available again for new users so that they can be reactivated. In this way, unused numbers will also remain a part of the national resource.
Users have been advised to make calls, send SMS or use the internet from time to time to keep their SIMs active. Even minor activity will be enough to keep the SIM active.
PTA says that the aim of this decision is to provide better and safer telecom services to the public. The authority will also launch an awareness campaign soon so that all users are fully aware of this policy.
