Karachi: The Pakistan Super League (PSL) will take a historic step in the 2026 edition by introducing a completely open player auction for the first time. According to sources, this system will be implemented after the approval of the chairman board.
A workshop will be held on Sunday in which team owners will be fully aware of the auction procedure, rules and regulations. Officials say that this step will provide equal opportunities to all franchises so that the best players are acquired in a fair and transparent manner.
In previous editions, teams selected players through retention and draft systems, but this time the open auction will increase transparency and competition in the league.
All the old five franchises have requested to retain four players including the brand ambassador, while the new teams have set a condition of zero retention. The final decision on this matter will be taken by the chairman board.
PSL Governing Council Chairman Mohsin Naqvi had already convinced the team owners to adopt the open auction formula to create better opportunities for both players and fans. Experts say that this system will not only increase opportunities for the players but also increase the quality and interest of the league.
This auction will prove to be a memorable moment for the fans and will create a new chapter in the history of PSL.
