PM Shehbaz Highlights Privatization Drive, Says Pakistan Pulled Back from Default

ISLAMABAD: Addressing the federal cabinet, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that privatisation of loss-making state-owned enterprises is the central pillar of the government’s economic reform agenda, which aims to build the national economy on a sustainable basis.

The Prime Minister said that the current government took the reins of the economy in difficult circumstances and led the country out of the threat of default and onto the path of economic stability. According to him, despite tough decisions, financial discipline was improved, the positive effects of which are now emerging.

Terming the recent meetings with the President of the United Arab Emirates as very useful, Shehbaz Sharif said that these meetings have given a new dimension to bilateral cooperation. Similarly, he expressed satisfaction over the telephonic conversation with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, in which the progress on economic and strategic relations was reviewed.

According to economists, if the privatisation process is completed in a transparent and phased manner, it can reduce pressure on government finances and create a more favourable environment for foreign investment.
