Islamabad: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has warned mobile users that using a SIM registered in someone else’s name will be considered a violation of the law, while the full responsibility for any misuse of the SIM will lie with the registered user.

According to the PTA, all users will be responsible for the use of their SIMs and telecom connections, be it calls, messages or mobile data. Legal action can be taken in case of violation of the regulations.

PTA Director Kashif Ghafoor explained in this regard that this is not a new law but users are reminded repeatedly. He said that the agreement made while issuing the SIM clearly states that the SIM will be in the name of the person who is using it.

According to the Director PTA, under the law, an individual can get a maximum of eight SIMs issued in his name. Users have been instructed to use only their registered SIMs to avoid any legal complications.

According to telecom experts, unregistered or misused SIMs can be used in crimes, therefore, determining the identity and responsibility of the user is very important for national security and digital protection.
