Islamabad: An important development has come to light in the energy sector where the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has recommended a reduction in gas prices under the annual revision and sent a full report to the federal government.

According to the OGRA announcement, a 3 percent reduction in the average gas price has been proposed for Sui Northern consumers, while the reduction rate has been kept up to 8 percent for Sui Southern consumers. After the recommendations, the new average gas prices have been proposed to be fixed at Rs 1804.08 (SNGPL) and Rs 1549.41 (SSGC) per MMBTU respectively.

OGRA has clarified that the advice of the federal government is being awaited for the final notification of the prices. The final deadline for the government’s response is 40 days, and if no instructions are issued within the stipulated time, OGRA’s proposed prices will automatically come into effect.

Officials say that if the price reduction is approved, it will directly benefit gas consumers across the country and significant relief is expected in future bills.
