The country needs stability; institutions must stay within limits: Talal Chaudhary

Faisalabad: During a press conference in Faisalabad, Talal Chaudharyr raised important points regarding the powers of the country’s institutions, the behaviour of the judiciary and electoral politics. He said that Pakistan cannot afford political conflict at this time and all decisions should be made within the constitutional framework.

He said that amending the constitution is the established right of the parliament, and judges should refrain from giving political statements. According to him, if a judge makes a constitutional amendment conditional on his position, it is neither in accordance with the spirit of the constitution nor with the democratic system. He claimed that in the past, the judiciary has destabilised elected governments and prime ministers through suo motu decisions.

He alleged that on many occasions, the courts have removed personalities and installed someone else, who does not come under the purview of the judiciary. According to him, such steps have damaged the autonomy of the parliament and made it like a local body.

Talking about the elections, he said that when electoral problems arose in Punjab, a boycott was carried out, while in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, full participation is being taken in the electoral process. He further said that Sohail Afridi will effectively discharge the responsibilities of the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at the provincial level.

He stressed on all political forces that the country needs to be moved forward through constitutional and democratic methods instead of instability.
