Air pollution reduced in Punjab, positive results of smog control measures

Islamabad: A new report released by the Smog Forecasting Center has revealed that the level of air pollution across Punjab this year has been lower than last year. Satellite images collected from November 1 to 14 show that there has been an overall decrease in smog intensity in all major districts of the province.

According to the report, continuous monitoring and ground-level measures have played a practical role in reducing the impact of smog. The center also said that air emissions from kilns have decreased, which is credited to the use of zigzag technology and strict monitoring.

The report said that modern monitoring equipment, sensors, and air quality stations have improved the data collection system. In the past, it was not possible to determine the exact level of air pollution due to the lack of such equipment.

Officials say that the exhaust emissions from vehicles and industrial units are being tested as per international standards, due to which the air environment in the province is gradually improving. However, they warned that expecting 100 percent results in a few weeks or months is far from realistic due to climate change.

According to the report, the current improvement is the initial result of long-term policies, in which further improvements are expected in the future.
