Islamabad: During the debate on the constitutional amendment in the National Assembly, Chairman PTI Barrister Gohar strongly criticized the government and said that the decisions of a nuclear state are being made from outside the country, which is a dangerous process for democracy.
He said, “Today is a day of mourning for democracy, because we are moving on a path that will bury democracy.” According to him, “Recourse to constitutional amendments for personal interests is a threat to the future of the country.”
Referring to President Asif Zardari, Barrister Gohar said that if the allegations against him are false, he should appear in court and defend himself. “We make laws and ourselves take exception to them, is this the rule of law?” he raised the question.
He said that the amendments to the NAB laws weakened the accountability system and now a specific class is being given more protection through constitutional amendments.
Political analysts say that Barrister Gohar’s statement could set a new direction for the opposition.
