Islamabad: The Federal Bureau of Statistics, while releasing its weekly inflation report, has said that the overall inflation rate in the country has decreased slightly by 0.59 percent, after which the annual rate has come down to 4.18 percent.

According to the report, the prices of 18 basic commodities increased during the week, while the prices of 12 commodities decreased.

The highest increase in commodities was recorded in eggs, large meat, small meat, ghee and firewood. Eggs became expensive by Rs 8.33, large meat became expensive by Rs 10.66 and ghee by Rs 2.37.

According to the Bureau of Statistics, the price of a 20-kilogram bag of flour increased by Rs 7.39, after which the average price became Rs 2,195.81.

On the other hand, tomatoes, onions, sugar and pulses became cheaper, while the prices of 21 items remained stable.

The report said that the price of tomatoes decreased by Rs 66.21, onions by Rs 8.49 and garlic by Rs 13.

Economists say that despite the current economic pressure, the slight decrease in inflation at the weekly level is an indication of partial relief for the public, however, a consistent policy is required to bring the overall inflation trend under control.
