Pakistan ready for a new era of Iran-Turkey trade

Lahore: Pakistan has made significant progress in regional connectivity and has decided to restore railway connections with Iran and Turkey to boost economic activities as per the prime minister’s priorities. Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi says that the revival of the Eco Freight Train is a clear example of Pakistan’s trade-friendly policies.

The minister said that this international railway service was started under the Economic Cooperation Organization to promote sustainable trade and connectivity in the region, but it had to be suspended due to technical and administrative issues.

Now the government is bringing the train back on track with renewed vigour. In the first phase, only freight services will be provided, while passenger travel will also be included later to open new doors for transportation in the region.

Hanif Abbasi added that the new rail track under the Reko Dak project will play a role in connecting Balochistan with global trade. At the same time, modern signalling and freight management reforms will help bring the performance of Pakistan Railways closer to world standards.
