Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has introduced a new, phased, and systematic procedure for the change of Sales Tax Registration Number (STRN/NTN) for businesses having industrial connections. This order will come into effect on October 22, 2025.
The notification makes it clear that the change will be possible only after the written approval of the concerned commissioner. The business entities will submit the application to the Commissioner; the Commissioner will review the documents, business registration, performance history, and tax payment details; and if approved, the electricity or gas company will be allowed to make the change.
The FBR has seen this new system as an important step in bringing transparency in tax administration, preventing business interference and fake registration. According to experts, this step will promote regularity and accountability in the industrial sector and is also in line with the strategy of NFC to expand the scope of the tax net.
