Meeting chaired by Marriyum Aurangzeb, proposal for limited Basant Festival in inner Lahore

Lahore: An important meeting was held under the chairmanship of Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb in which a proposal was made to limit the Basant Festival to the historical areas of Lahore, Shahi Qila, Mochi Gate, Bhati Gate and Rang Mahal.

In the meeting, the administration presented a safe Basant plan to the government, in which it was clarified that the use of sharp metal, nylon and chemical strings will be completely banned. It has been recommended to allow the use of only safe strings made of cotton or starch.

According to the plan, it has been proposed to make barcodes mandatory on all kites and strings, while strict action and crackdown will be taken against unregistered kite sellers and those who manufacture or sell unsafe strings.

Furthermore, a complete ban on the entry of motorcycles into Basant areas has been recommended. It also includes instructions to install safety antennas and neck covers for motorcyclists, as well as safety nets and wire protection systems on main highways.

These suggestions given by the district administration have been sent to the government, and only after final approval will the official announcement of holding a limited Basant Festival in inner Lahore be made.
