ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of National Food Security and Research (MNFSR) has revealed that fertilizer prices in Pakistan have recorded a significant decline over the past year despite a sharp increase in international prices.
According to an official document available with Wealth Pakistan, urea and DAP are the two most widely used fertilizers in the country, accounting for about 85 percent of the total fertilizer consumption across the country.
During the one-year period from July 2024 to August 2025, domestic prices of both fertilizers showed a declining or moderate trend, while global markets saw a significant increase.
The ministry said that the price of a 50-kg bag of urea in Pakistan decreased from Rs4,705 in July 2024 to Rs4,365 in July 2025, reflecting a decline of 7.2 percent. In contrast, international urea prices increased by 32.6 percent, highlighting the relative stability of Pakistan’s domestic market.
Similarly, DAP prices in Pakistan increased by a controlled 17.1 percent during the same period, compared to an international increase of 34.7 percent, according to official data.
In dollar terms, international urea prices increased from $348.5 per tonne to $462 per tonne, while DAP prices increased from $591.9 to $787.8 per tonne. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s domestic market remained relatively stable with moderate fluctuations, due to effective local supply management and government oversight.
Economists say that fertilizer stability in Pakistan is crucial to protect farmers from global price shocks and ensure affordability in the agricultural sector, which contributes significantly to the national GDP.
