lslamabad: While the recent floods have made the lives of farmers unbearable, the government has indicated that it will take a big step to reduce the financial burden on them. In the cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, it was proposed to provide relief to the borrowers of the Agriculture Development Bank.
According to the proposals, loan installments can be rescheduled, interest payments can be waived or loans can be waived if necessary. It should be remembered that the Agricultural Development Bank is considered the largest financial support for farmers in Pakistan.
The meeting emphasized that agriculture and climate change are issues of provincial jurisdiction, so any new program must be designed with the participation and support of the provinces.
The cabinet, citing the rapidly growing population as a major cause of pressure on resources, also proposed the formation of a high-level committee, which will make concrete recommendations to deal with agriculture and climate emergencies. This committee will be headed by Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, while the chief secretaries of the provinces will also be part of it.
