Islamabad: Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar has said that arbitration is the best way to reduce litigation and resolve public problems quickly. He was addressing the closing ceremony of the Civil Commercial Arbitration Program.
The Law Minister said that it is a tradition of our region that disputes are resolved through jirga or panchayat, and now this culture is being introduced in the modern legal sphere. He said that Justice Shahid Waheed was absolutely right that cases are resolved amicably through arbitration.
Azam Nazir Tarar said that there are currently about 14 million pending cases in Pakistan, which is a serious situation. Although late, the government has initiated fundamental changes to address this challenge.
He added that the Law and Justice Commission has also made recommendations to reduce the burden of pending cases and a law on dispute resolution through mediation will be passed by the parliament soon.
