Five-colored dustbins in Punjab schools, fines for non-compliance

Lahore: The Punjab government has issued instructions to have colored dustbins in all educational institutions of the province as an eco-friendly measure. According to the official order, it will be mandatory to have five different colored dustbins in every school and college so that waste can be collected separately.

This project is called ‘Smart Waste Management’ and will be supervised by Environment Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb. Education Minister Rana Sikandar and Local Government Minister Zeeshan Malik have been given the targets of this project.

The deadline for installing colored bins has been set by September 30, while inspections will begin from October 1. Educational institutions have been required to segregate waste according to environmental norms, otherwise fines will be imposed.

According to experts, this initiative will not only reduce the amount of waste but also promote recycling and environmentally friendly behaviors.
