Islamabad: The Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) has announced that new bids have been invited for the import of one lakh metric tonnes of sugar. These bids will be opened on September 23 and as per the rules, no offer of less than 25,000 tonnes will be acceptable.
It may be recalled that five bids were received in the sugar tender opened by TCP earlier on September 8.
The federal cabinet had approved the import of 5 lakh metric tonnes of sugar in July, under which it was decided that sugar would be imported only through TCP at the official level.
The government has also exempted imported sugar from taxes in order to stabilize supply in the country and control sugar prices in the local market.
