Heavy rains in Lahore, many areas deprived of electricity

LAHORE: Monsoon rains have engulfed the provincial capital, after which the weather became pleasant but power outages have increased the problems of citizens.

As a result of the rain, more than 80 feeders of the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) tripped, plunging many areas into darkness. Citizens say that power outages during heavy rains affected normal life.

According to WASA Lahore, the highest rainfall was recorded at Pani Wala Talab at 112 mm. In addition, 56 mm of rain was recorded on Jail Road, 76 mm at Gulberg Head Office and 21 mm at the airport.

Other areas of the city also recorded varying amounts of rainfall, including Laxmi Chowk 94.5 mm, Upper Mall 50 mm, Mughalpura 29.5 mm, Tajpura 36 mm, Nishtar Town 74 mm and Chowk Nakhda 70.5 mm.

Similarly, 94 mm was recorded in Farrukhabad, 65.5 mm in Gulshan Ravi, 97 mm in Iqbal Town, 82.5 mm in Samanabad, 65.5 mm in Johar Town, 56 mm in Shadipura and 61 mm in Qurtaba Chowk.

The areas affected by the rain include Canal Road, Jail Road, Mall Road, Gulberg, Multan Road, Johar Town and Garden Town. Similarly, heavy rain was also recorded in Kalma Chowk, Ferozepur Road, Ichhra, Islampura, Sanda and Qurtaba Chowk.  The weather has also become pleasant in the vicinity of Qainchi, Chungi Amarsadhu, Nishtar, Gajumta and Kahna due to the presence of monsoon clouds.
