Lahore: Users across Pakistan are facing slow internet speeds and difficulties in uploading and downloading data. According to experts, the main reason for this is a technical fault in the submarine internet cables near the city of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
A PTCL spokesperson said that due to the fault, the bandwidth of the important international cable systems IMEWE and SMW4 has been partially affected, which is affecting Pakistani users. According to him, there may be an unusual reduction in speed, especially during peak hours.
The spokesperson further said that for the convenience of the affected users, the company has taken immediate steps and started transferring traffic to alternative bandwidth. At the same time, international partner organizations are also working on an emergency basis to repair the fault so that the problem can be resolved as soon as possible.
This is not the first time that internet speeds in Pakistan have been affected due to faults in undersea cables. Similar issues have also affected businesses, online education, e-governance and especially freelancers and the IT industry in the past.
PTCL ​​has said that the repair and restoration process will take time, but the company’s local and international teams are working to ensure that disruptions are kept to a minimum and that internet services are fully restored soon.
