Lahore: Severe flood relay in Chenab and Sutlej rivers has engulfed several districts of Punjab. Water level has decreased at Head Marala, but the relay is moving beyond Head Khanki towards Head Qadirabad.
The administration has prepared to make the first crack due to increasing pressure on Head Khanki, while 450 villages have been evacuated after drone surveillance and announcements in mosques.
Ganda Singh Wala in Kasur has witnessed extremely high levels of flooding, with water inflow exceeding 269,000 cusecs. In the nearby village of Fatuhi Wala, water entered houses and destroyed crops on hundreds of acres.
In Multan, the Akbar flood dam submerged the settlements of Nawabpur village, while water also started flowing through the railway track near Abdul Hakeem. Dozens of villages were affected by the flooding in the areas of Vehari, Borewala and Mailsi, where crops and houses were submerged.
In Bahawalnagar, the flood relay affected more than 6,000 people from 124 villages, while in Lodhran, the dams of Basti Syedi Wala, Adam Wahan and Jhok Tera broke, causing water to enter the fields. After the land connection between Jhok Imam Bakhsh and Syedi Wala was cut, locals are travelling by boats.
According to analysts, this situation shows that flood management is still weak in rural areas of Punjab. Experts say that if the government does not take timely relief and rehabilitation measures, not only will agricultural losses increase, but thousands of affected families will have to face further difficulties.
