Lahore: The rising situation of rivers in Punjab has become alarming, where lakhs of people have been affected by floods and high alert is on in several districts.

According to DG PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia, 3,243 villages have been affected so far, while more than 2.4 million people have been affected by floodwaters. He said that the big flood is likely to reach Panjnad by September 5.

He said that traffic is completely suspended at Head Muhammad Wala and water has entered Bahawalpur and Bahawalnagar, which has further increased the difficulties of the victims.

The DG PDMA warned that the next 24 hours at Head Sadhanai are very important, because if the water level increases, Pir Mahal and Khanewal areas may also be affected.

He further said that the water flow at Head Baloki has reached 137,000 cusecs, while high-level floods are being predicted in River Sutlej.  On the other hand, the Chenab’s Raila is expected to reach Multan tonight after passing through Head Trimu.
